WNDU – Notre Dame confirms to WNDU-TV that starting quarterback Everett Golson is no longer enrolled at the university.
Rumors began percolating on social media sites like Twitter late Saturday afternoon.
In a phone interview, university spokesman Dennis Brown told NewsCenter 16, “Federal and school privacy laws preclude us from issuing any further comment at this time.”
Golson burst onto the scene in 2012 as Notre Dame’s starting quarterback, leading the Irish to an undefeated regular season and a trip to the BCS National Championship game.
Golson’s departure leaves Notre Dame with three scholarship players on the roster–Tommy Rees, Andrew Hendrix and Malik Zaire.
Before spring practice, it was announced that Gunner Kiel had decided to transfer from Notre Dame. Kiel is headed to Cincinnati.
Words cannot describe the pain I have in my stomach right now. This isn’t good in anyway shape or form for this young man. We are not going to jump to conclusions or stories but it must be serious if “Federal and school privacy laws preclude any further comment at this time.”
Stay tuned for more information.
UPDATE as of 12:02PM EST
At this time no further developments can be confirmed. He is no longer enrolled at the University of Notre Dame which is a big difference from ring expelled. As more information is reported we will keep you updated.
Tough time for the Irish, they will bounce back.
