I came across this list and I’m convinced it’s 100% bullshit. This website definitely just threw together a bunch of songs they think are the top 15 requested songs at karaoke. Some of them definitely are but I’m not believing this order.
15. Journey – “Don’t Stop Believin”
How the fuck is this not number 1? Better question is how is this number 15? This is hands down the most requested song at karaoke. If you’re at a bar with karaoke, it’s a guarantee some assjockey will request it.
14. Grease – “Summer Nights”
Number 14 seems about right for “Summer Nights.” Usually get some dumb couple up there singing this one. I’ve definitely heard it done but not a ton. A solid spot for this one.
13. Alannah Myles – “Black Velvet”
Not sure who this snuck into the list. “Black Velvet” came out in 1989 and unless you’re at a bar with a woman who rocks big hair and refuses to believe the 80’s are over, you’re not hearing this one much. Actually the only time you still hear “Black Velvet” is at karaoke.
12. Sublime – “Santeria”
This must be a West Coast special. Legit haven’t heard someone rock “Santeria” at karaoke. Not a bad song, just doesn’t seem like a popular choice.
11. Joan Jett & The Blackhearts – “I Love Rock N’ Roll”
This is another that drunk girls love to bang out. One of those songs that usually involves 6 girls yelling into 1 good microphone and 1 half working mic. Drinks spilling, everyone appalled. It’s just never a good few minutes if this one is picked.
10. The B-52s – “Love Shack”
I don’t know why but I usually laugh when someone comes in hot with a little “Love Shack.” It must just be the fact that it’s the B-52s and people love trying to do those ridiculous voices. Again though, don’t think I’ve heard it at karaoke.
9. Sir-Mix-A-Lot – “Baby Got Back”
Oh yeah. “Baby Got Back” for sure belongs on the list. Should be higher. I’d say around 4 or 5. 10/10 times a white guy is doing it, but then again, do black people do karaoke?
8. Bruce Springsteen – “Born in the U.S.A.”
I’m torn on this one. I feel like it should be on here but at the same time it shouldn’t. May have heard this once or twice but definitely not a popular choice. The only good thing about “Born in the U.S.A.” making this list is that people will finally see what the lyrics really mean.
7. Madonna – “Like a Prayer”
Group of girls. Probably towards the end of the night. Super drunk. “Like a Prayer.” All go hand in hand.
6. Radiohead – “Creep”
Great song but doesn’t belong on the list. Never heard it done and other than the chorus, may be one of those “are they done yet?” type picks.
5. Adele – “Someone Like You”
Ohhhhh boy. I think Adele songs are the new Whitney Houston/Celine Dion songs. Girls who think they were blessed with incredible voices pony up and try to pull off Adele. Welllllll it usually turns into a painful experience for all but that would stop this buckaroo. She’ll think she killed it and will have her name on the list immediately following her performance Either way, no chance this makes the list.
4. Kings of Leon – “Sex on Fire”
Who the fuck is singing Kings of Leon at karaoke? Let alone requesting it so much that it’s at number 4? What the fuck am I missing here? I’m just confused with this one. No clue how it’s on here or who sings it. Need answers on this one.
3. Natalie Imbruglia – “Torn”
This is kind of a guilty pleasure song. Natalie Imbruglia crushes this jam. This is also one of those songs that usually brings a surprise appearance with it. Some girl that came out of the shadows of the bar will get up there solo and absolutely nail the performance.
2. Weezer – “Say It Ain’t So”
Great jam. Pretty solid choice for karaoke too. It’s not 2 on my list but it’s always a great change from the standard “Don’t Stop Believin” choice. This is the male version of the group songs. Bunch of dudes shitfaced jammin out to Weezer. I’ll take it.
1. Michael Jackson – “Billie Jean”
I don’t know about number 1, but “Billie Jean” is definitely up there. The Michael Jackson page has to be one of the most, if not the most, browsed page in karaoke history. Michael Jackson is for the showman in the typical karaoke singer. This is the person that not only wants to sing to an average, computer made instrumental, but want to show off their dance moves as well. I don’t think I’ve seen someone sing a Michael Jackson song and not do a famous MJ move. Whether it was the moonwalk, crotch grab, or “Thriller” dance, it’s all been done.
