NHL – The Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday recalled forward Jared Staal from the American Hockey League, and likely will have him in the lineup when they face the New York Rangers on Thursday.
That would mean all four Staal brothers would be in the same building for the first time in the NHL.
Jared, 22, is the youngest of the four Staal brothers. In 52 AHL games this season with the Charlotte Checkers, he has four goals and three assists.
He’ll join older brothers Eric and Jordan as teammates with the Hurricanes. Marc, the second-oldest brother, plays for the Rangers but is unlikely to get on the ice Thursday night. He hasn’t played since sustaining an eye injury during a game March 5.
Well, how bout that. Eric, Jordan, Marc, and Jared will all be in the building on Thursday night when the Rangers take on the Hurricanes. Too bad Marc still can’t play and they could potentially get all of them on the ice at the same time.
It’s a solid move by the Hurricanes calling Jared up. They’re out of playoff contention and have the opportunity to allow the four brothers to face off in the big league.
They should throw the 3 Staal brothers on the same line, even if it’s just for one shift. If they could somehow string together a goal, that would be the most glorious and confusing call. “Stall…over to Stall, back to Stall…Staal shoots and scores! Assists from Staal and Staal.” That was exhausting just typing it. Would be a helluva call by the commentator.
Should be pretty cool to see three brothers playing on one team…and the other watching in a box.
