Sidney Crosby Mouth InjuryI’m switching the time frame a little bit. I realized I write these on Sundays and miss a day. So now I’ll cover Saturday to Saturday. Now that we’ve taken care of that part, let’s get down to business.

So the Penguins are the hottest talk of the town now. Just when everyone thought the Blackhawks would be the only ones going streaking this season, the Penguins are now in the middle of a 15-game winning streak. This isn’t a “we didn’t lose in regulation” type streak but a full blown 15 game, 30 points type streak. They went 15-0 in the month of March, after defeating the Islanders 2-0. In said win, Sidney Crosby lost several teeth and needed oral surgery after taking a puck to the mouth off of a Brooks Orpik shot. In addition to the streak, the Penguins also made big news when they signed Calgary Flames’ captain Jerome Inginla. Read more about that here.

The hockey world lost one of the great assistant coaches. Wayne Fleming passed away at his home in Calgary at the young age of 62. Fleming spent 14 years behind the bench of various NHL teams, including: Phoenix Coyotes, New York Islanders, Philadelphia Flyers, Edmonton Oilers, Tampa Bay Lightning, and the Calgary Flames. He also helped Team Canada win silver and gold medals in 1992 and 2002, respectively. Fleming will certainly be missed by players and fans across the hockey world.

The playoff race in the Eastern Conference is all sorts of crazy right now. The 6 seed and below looks like it could be a toss up. The current 7 seed Devils have 39 points. After that, the Islanders and Rangers both have 35 points, the Hurricanes have 34, Capitals (33), Sabres (32), Lightning and Flyers have 31, then the Panthers are bringing up the rear with 28 points. It’s going to be an interesting home stretch for the last few spots in the East. Time will tell who grabs those.
