The Penguins rode into this week in the midst of a modest three game win streak. They have no extended that streak to 7 games. It’s safe to say Sidney Crosby is back to his old ways. He’s atop of the League with 47 points (12G, 35A). The Pens are head and shoulders above the rest of the in terms of goals/game at 3.59, second coming in at 3.29.
As much success as the Penguins have had into the shortened season, the Montreal can not go forgotten. Coming into the season ranked a measly 25, the Habs are tied with the Pens at the top of the Eastern Conference with 40 points each. They Canadiens are riding a 3 game win streak and look to continue it as they remain one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference and across the entire League.
The Ducks continue to surprise in the West and have pulled within 5 points of the dangerous Chicago Blackhawks. I think it’s safe to say the Ducks and Viktor Fasth have proven to be the biggest surprises not only in the West but across the League. The Ducks finished 13th last season but with the help of great all around play and a great coach in Bruce Boudreau, the Ducks continue to churn and burn in Anaheim. The Ducks did lose a key player in Cory Perry to 4 games due to suspension after his hit on Jason Zucker.
As I wrote on Thursday, the realignment was approved by the board and will go into effect starting next season (2013-2014). Read the full post here.
