It finally happened. The Blackhawks consecutive point streak halted at 24 games after the Avalanche outscored the Hawks 6-2. A lot of people predicted this being the way the it would end. A below average team blowing out the Hawks. As much as I would have liked to see history made, it’s good the Hawks got this loss out of their system. I’m sure it was a distraction and moving forward, they may be even more dangerous. With Patrick Sharp out 3 weeks and injuries finally striking the team, they’ll need to continue playing with the tenacity we’ve seen all season and finish the second half as strong as the first.

The Anaheim Ducks signed Ryan Getzlaf to an 8 year, $66 million dollar contract extension. Getzlaf is having a steller year with 10 goals and 19 assists. He’s been a key player in the Ducks success this year and locking him down heading into the second half of the season was a smart move by the Ducks, although I think they overpaid him.

New York Ranger’s Marc Staal took a puck to face, reopening another hockey debate: should visors be mandatory in the NHL? I’m in the camp of: they’re grown men, they know the risks and if they want to put themselves at more of a risk, that’s their decision. If the NHL and NHLPA really wanted to consider protecting its players, they’d have full cages. But lets be real, that will never happen and none of us would want to see that.
