The blizzard named Nemo that crippled the Northeast didn’t only effect the Northeast, it effected people down south and in the Midwest, especially those who were traveling. NCAA basketball official Michael Stephens was one of those people. He was stranded in Providence, RI because of Nemo.

John Gaffney, NCAA basketball referee, officiated the Marquette-DePaul in the afternoon and then drove from  Milwaukee, WI to South Bend, IN to work the Louisville-Notre Dame game at night.

If you’re keeping score at home that is:

40 minutes for Marquette vs. DePaul
40 minutes for Notre Dame vs. Louisville in regulation.
25 minutes or five-5 minute overtimes.

That is 105 minutes of officiating. Factoring in prep time and travel…he had himself a 14 hour + work day. Cal Ripken of refereeing.
