Another week in the books, another week the Sharks have gone undefeated. The Sharks, who were ranked 23rd by multiple sources coming into the shortened season, have been on an absolute tear. They currently have 3 players in the top 10 for points, including: Patrick Marleau (14), Joe Thornton (14), and Joe Pavelski (12). The Blackhawks suffered their first losses of the season in overtime to the Wild and a shootout loss to the Canucks, however still holding strong with a “0” in the L column. The Rangers and Flyers continue their skids, while the Capitals and Alex Ovechkin have remained silent with 2 wins on the season.
The Lightning have been on an tear since dropping their only loss to the Islanders. They’ve won their last 5 games, outscoring their opponents 28 goals to 11 along the way while. They’re a fast and fun team to watch. Keep your eyes on them, they’re currently leading the Eastern Conference and don’t seem to be losing much steam, if any.
Three Stars of the Week:
3. Patrick Marleau: 4 GP, 3G, 3A, 3PTS
2. Steven Stamkos: 3 GP, 3G, 3A, 3PTS
1. Thomas Vanek: 2 GP, 3G, 3A, 6PTS
Highlights of the Week:
Matt Frattin’s game winning goal in overtime as the clock expired:
Not really the most fancy goal but the hustle and the clock winding down makes this goal great. Top shelves it over Ryan Miller’s shoulder. Boom.
Thomas Vanek’s stop and shoot backhander to cap off his hat trick:
Just toyed with Tuukka Rask. Last time I checked, you’re supposed to wait til you get to the locker room to get undressed…
Michael Neuvirth robs Marek Zidlikcy:
That’s how you protect your net. Oh a 6×4 wide open goal? Nope. Nice try.
