Manti Katie

LA Times – This week, Notre Dame football player Manti Te’o sat down for his first on-camera interview to discuss the controversy surrounding his girlfriend hoax. But he wasn’t sitting across from Oprah Winfrey, the current queen of the sports world exclusive. He was talking to Katie Couric.

Notre Dame’s beloved captain and Heisman trophy runner up will finally speak on camera about the whole “Twitter hoax.” Out of respect to Manti Te’o, his family, and the University we have not commented on the whole ordeal. We didn’t know all of the details and it’s not our place to try and piece it together. Well that and media outlet has beat a dead horse in regards to this story. Manti sat down with Katie Couric to discuss the whole thing. If you don’t know what happened then you must have been under a rock or just not own a device with cable news, internet, or look at newspapers.

Manti lied briefly about the ordeal, I think we all would too. You have to realize how embarrassing the situation to be. He fell in love with a girl before meeting her. He then made said girl his girlfriend without meeting her.  And to top it all off he was lied to about the whole thing despite being a national sports figure.

We look at NCAA football players as men but let us not forget how awkward, shy, and STUPID we all were in college. Cut the kid some slack. He is going to have to live with this the rest of his life…regardless if he was a part of the scheme or victim of it.
