The Constant Disappointment That Is the Lottery

Welp, another massive jackpot has come and possibly? gone. After I checked my ticket and saw that I had ONE number out of 25, I began thinking: why is there still that feeling of disappoint when you don’t win?

For the past 24 hours, everyone is strategically picking their numbers and dreaming of everything they’ll be buying and doing after they win. Even when your odds of winning are 1 in 175+ million, you always think it will be you.

Hell, I busted out the results of every Powerball from this past Saturday all the way back to 1998 and threw them in Excel (nerd alert!), but lets get real here, there is no strategy and no advantage. As much as people like to think their numbers were picked with some sort of algorithm or whatever have you, there’s no way to pick the winners. Biggest “luck of the draw” game you can play.

So, lets all get back in our cubes and slave away. Another day, another no $550 million dollars.
