Yesterday, the Miami Marlins held a fire sale and sent Jose Reyes, Mark Buehrle, and Josh Johnson to the Toronto Blue Jays (and a few others elsewhere).
Remember last off season when the Marlins announced their new ballpark, uniforms, name change, and had one of the biggest off season spending streaks in recent history? Yeah, I remember that too. Remember when they were also one of the worst teams in baseball this past season?
Everything about them was slimey. Bring in big names and sell as many tickets as possible. Jeffrey Loria owns a baseball team for all the wrong reasons. I understand it is still a business but save that for your art dealings. You’re not in it for the neither the betterment of the fans nor the club.
As much as I don’t like the Marlins, or the city of Miami for that matter, this was a terrible sports decision and shouldn’t happen in any organization. I’m almost thinking the Wilpons are better than this Loria clown, but then I realize that would just be a ridiculous thought. No one is worse than the Wilpons (at least they’re not dead broke or anything…for real this time).
