Jason Bay is my new savior. Who in their right mind would cough up a fat 2 years left on his $66 Million contract which had a minimum of a 1 year $19 million left on it? Nobody that’s who! Those concussions have hit him hard on the field and must have hit him even harder off the field. I wouldn’t be surprised if he had a nurse named Lafunda feeding him Mott’s Applesauce 15 times a day. Bay hit .234 with 26 home runs in 288 games over his injury plagued stretch. The guy didn’t even have an RBI from September 2011, through all of SPRING TRAINING, up until 3 weeks into the 2012 season! You are a PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL PLAYER and you cant get 1 RBI in almost 3 months? In the months playing minor leaguers, “has beens” and “never weres”…he batted .165 with eight home runs and total extra-base hits in 2012! What took the Mets so long to do this? But lets all remember, they are the Mets…and this is good news.
I have zero clue who’d pick him up. Jason right now is in the same position as an abused girlfriend, finally got the courage to dump her boyfriend, after years and years of taking haymakers to the face for not listening to him. Jason is probably all alone, cold and waiting for a bus from Flushing to Polookaville, listening to Alanis Morrisette on his iPod crying himself to sleep.
He’ll get a part time job at Disney’s ESPN Club doing a radio show about baseball or concussions in sports or something awesome like that.
However, I wouldn’t be surprised if he is signed by the Houston Astros and hits 40 home runs next year with that short porch in left. You know why? Because it’s the Mets, and somehow when things go right, they always go wrong…
Guarantee they sign Melky Cabrera to a 6 year, $80 million dollar contract because they have zero clue how to save money (ie. Bobby Bonilla) or work their farm system…(ie. Zach Wheeler, and Lastings Milledge).
It’s going to be a looooooOOOOOoooooooong winter for the Mets, hopefully Athena takes the Wilpon’s with her.
