Robinson CaNO-hits!

The Yankees are in a very tough hole right now.  They lost a heartbreaker last night in extra innings, lost their captain, and right now down 2-0 going into Game 3 against Justin Verlander.  They have been in tough spots before but this team just isn’t responding.  Let me rephrase that, this OFFENSE isn’t responding to the call.

Kuroda took the mound today and didn’t allow a baserunner until the top of the 6th inning.  He pitched as if this game was game 7 and the bullpen wasn’t available.

The trouble came in on a 7th inning routine double play ball hit to Nix with 1 out and men on the corners. Robinson Cano lost the ball on the transfer at second, which allowed the runner on third to score and batter to reach safely at first.  The Yankees escaped that inning with only 1 run scored.

In the 8th inning we saw a terrible call by second base umpire Jeff Nelson.  Robinson Cano had tagged a wide turning Omar Infante for the third out.  Nelson, called him safe, which led to two more runs being scored.  As a result of this play, Girardi was ejected for arguing while making a pitching change.  Will this be the fire that gets the bats going?

Despite the fielding miscues/bad luck of Cano, he is not doing ANYTHING at the plate. He is currently hitless in his last 27 at bats (the worst streak in MLB postseason history) and 2 for 28 in the 2012 postseason. Not only is he losing games for the Yankees, he is losing millions of dollars in future contracts.

A-Rod lined a single up the middle in the 9th inning which may be a sign of things to come in MoTown?

Yankees will not workout tomorrow in Detroit, they need the rest after playing 5 straight days. Here is the inning’s break down 12+13+9+12+9= 55 innings in 5 days.  Thats is 11 innings a day or 6.111 games over 5 days.  Russel Martin cannot feel especially good.  Joe Girardi will join his family in a Illinois for the funeral service of his father tomorrow. God Bless and Heavy Hearts go out to the Girardi Family.

Game 3 is a MUST WIN for the Yankees.  Hughes has looked good as of late but starting pitching isn’t the problem.

P.S. I am hearing Kate Upton is dating Justin Verlander now?  Now we REALLY need to beat him.
